The Villa Riviera Blog

May 18, 2008

This morning we saw the first Giant Sea Turtle tracks of the season, nesting directly in front of the Villa. We expect another active season for these magnificant creatures. Last season we had 34 nests directly in front of our property. We still have some of our townhomes available during June and July which is the height of the nesting season, so come on down and see the turtles for yourself. Also, free Hi speed wireless internet services now available in all our units.

Sorry about the long absence without any new blog entries. We have made some changes to our website including the addition of some new features. Try the Google Earth map features at the bottom of the home page and click on "View Larger Map". You can zoom in for great detail or try clicking on the street view to see what our place looks like from the street as seen by Google's cameras. We are all filled up for February and March but limited space is still available for April and the months beyond. We had a great courtyard party on the 22nd and a good time was had by all.

We now have a new Husband/Wife Manager team at the Villa, they are Debra and Pete Lehn from Satellite Beach, Florida by way of Missouri. We hope their stay with us will be a long and satisfying one for them and for everyone staying at the Villa.

Our Husband/Wife Manager Team Larry and Judy Cregger have had to return to Tennessee due to a family emergency. They came to The Villa last May with great expectations and Judy's ailing father. When his health turned for the worse they took him back to Tennessee where they could give him the constant care he needed. Godspeed and God Bless to Larry and Judy. They made a great impression on everyone they came in contact with, we will miss them.

Hot, Hot, Hot, some days the breeze makes it really nice, other days just plain hot. A family from England tells me the hotter the better. . . it gives them something to remember in the cold and rainy days of winter. Many have finished their stay with us and we miss them, people from all over the world with lots of stories to tell and all are unique and very interesting, quite and education for a couple hillbillies. We have plenty of room at "The Villa", Turtle count is 34 but still no little ones.

Wow. . . We have had a busy July, Lots of kids in the ocean in the pool in the ocean in the pool and in the ocean and in the pool, you get the idea! The Canadians are still here and they really know how to enjoy the place, they've been coming to the Villa so long they have it down to a science. They spend the mornings on the beach and the afternoons in the pool with naps spread throughout. The Turtle count is 32, we actually had one green lady turtle come up in broad daylight and lay her eggs in front of onlookers.

The Villa is full this week, the Canadians are here for something like the 20th year. Another family is here for their 15th yr. from all over the country, one is actually an Air Force C-17 pilot who flies down to Patrick AFB to do touch-n-go training. It is really hot and humid but the ocean is cool and so is the pool. The Turtle count is 26 but still no hatchlings.

Things are really hopping at the Villa these days, the weather is HOT and humid, just like what you come to Florida to experience. You have to be careful sunbathing, sun screen is a must it only takes an hour or less to get well done, some of our guests actually glow at night. The surf is really big this morning from an offshore storm, the waves breaking really late throwing people on to the beach with a dazed look. Turtle count is at 22, and looking forward to when they hatch. . . any day now.

The green sea turtles seem to prefer "The Villa" as their nesting place, four more came ashore last night which brings the total to 14. . . or is it 15?. . . since Judy and I arrived, I'm losing count. The beach is ever changing, flat one day undulating the next, more sand washing in as each day passes making the beach larger, the water color has been gorgeous, azure as they would describe it around the gulf. The decisions are getting tough these days. . . sit by the pool, walk on the beach, or grab a noodle and float for a while in our beautiful pool, see ya soon!! Larry

Interesting things going on at The Villa! Sand between your toes. . . Love Bugs up your nose, (thankfully they're gone) Sea Turtles nesting on our beach, we actually got to see this take place last Tuesday evening around 10 p.m. with about ten of our guest, the kids loved it and had their picture taken with the big green turtle. June 1st. brought the warmer days right on schedule complete with the afternoon thunder storms to cool things off. The lazy days of summer are here. . . come join us!

Last night at 7:38pm we saw a beautiful shuttle launch in front of the Villa. From the vantage point in front of the Villa it is an excellent place to view the shutle launch which appears to rise right out of the ocean. The early evening launch was a very impressive site with the setting sun shining on the contrail.

Last night we had our 7th Sea Turtle nest of the season. She came up quite early, before 10:00 pm.

May 30, 2007

During the past week we had two more Giant Sea Turtles lay their eggs in front of the Villa, this brings our May total to four nests.

Wireless Internet We now have a rudimentary version of wireless internet in Unit 101 that could be accessed by those visiting the Villa Riviera Club. You will need to ask for the access code. We hope to have an improved system available in the near future. So, bring your laptops and enjoy your stay.

The Subtropical Storm Andrea was quite far north of us but some beach erosion may have destroyed the two early turtle nests that were in front of the Villa. We are not absolutely sure of this as the turtle does dig her nest quite deep. We will be watching for the first sign of hatchlings around the last week of June and beginning of July.

May 4, 2007

Our second giant sea turtle came up last night to lay her eggs right in front of the Villa. The beach in front of the Villa has always been a popular spot for the nesting turtles. If everything goes as planned by mother nature, the hatchlings will head to the ocean in about 60 days.

Our first Sea Turtle Nest of the season, right in front of the Villa. The Official season opens May 1st but apparently nobody told the turtle. Maybe the early nest is a result of Global Warming ---- (just kidding).

Our first blog entry - I hope everyone who visits our site will come back soon, as we no doubt will be fine tuning the site information, adding new photos to our photo gallery and providing blog entries for things happening at the Villa.
